Personal training is an excellent way to sharpen your skills and focus on problem areas you may be experiencing. Our private training follows the same functional fitness theories and methodologies that are practiced in the group classes, but may be a good option for anyone who has a busy schedule that conflicts with our class times or if you just want to supplement the classes to work on a specific goal like competing!

Trainers also measure their client’s strengths and weaknesses with fitness assessments. These fitness assessments may also be performed before and after an exercise program to measure their client’s improvements in physical fitness. We will educate you in many other aspects of wellness besides exercise, including general health and nutrition guidelines.

How has Seismic Crossfit changed my life. I would have to answer that with, “In a most fantastic way!”

First off, a little bit about me when I started: 53 years old, 360+ lbs., 6” 1”. The extent of my exercise was to get off the couch to get a glass of milk and some cookies before going to bed. Then I ruptured a disk in my lower back, had an MRI and found I had two ruptured disks. Dr.’s said surgery really wasn’t an option at this time. Told me that I needed to lose weight and strengthen my core muscles.

Two of my co-workers were doing Crossfit at Seismic. They were enjoying it. It’s right next door to where I work. So I figured, what the heck, try it, if it’s not for me I can stop, but at least give it a try.

Day one, I meet with Coach Adam. We try a few things. Sit-ups, everyone can do sit-ups. Nope, could not do a single sit-up without modifying the technique to make it easier. Crunches, ditto. Squats, nope, notta, none. Push-ups, same result (still struggling with them, but can do a few.) With-in 3 weeks time I am doing 50 sit-ups and 50 crunches as part of my warm-up exercises along with rowing for 500 meters. He throws in 15-25 squats every so often too.

Eight months later. I have more energy. I feel better about myself. People who haven’t seen me in awhile notice and comment about there being a change in me. There are multiple changes that I have undergone since starting at Seismic. The most obvious is the loss of almost 40 lbs, about 6 inches around my waist. My face, arms, legs and chest are thinner. I’m not walking around in excruciating pain anymore. But beyond the physical changes that have happened, there has been a psychological change also. I don’t get as agitated at people or myself as much. I stop and think through situations a bit more without just plunging forward half cocked. I just have an overall better outlook on life.

What most people don’t realize is that you actually gain energy from exercising. Way more than what you expend on the actual exercising. And when you can exercise in the type of atmosphere that is Seismic Crossfit you gain not only physical energy, but emotional energy from all of the others who are there, doing their thing, for their reasons. Everyone is very supportive; whether it’s helping you with lifting weights or learning some other movement, to emotional support of encouraging one another to succeed and do better.

So yeah, “In a most fantastic way!”, is how I would have to say that Seismic Crossfit has changed my life.

When I tell people about Seismic CrossFit, the word I use most is “empowering.” I am someone who truly never thought I would ever lift a barbell over my head or do intensive workouts (and actually enjoy it). Growing up the cliché nerdy, skinny kid who never did sports and was picked last in P.E., I just accepted that working out and sports were not for me. Then, at the ripe age of 36, I decided to try something new, hoping this time I could stick with it. Seismic entered my life and I am forever changed! Heather and Adam made everything accessible and my classmates were (and continue to be) encouraging, inspiring, and motivating! I have only been here 4 months, but in that time, have grown in confidence, strength, motivation, and overall health. And I keep coming back (which is something I can’t say about any other gym or studio I have joined)!

5 months ago, I started Seismic CrossFit after completing their boot camp program. I had recently finished my graduate degree, ended a long term relationship, started my big girl job, and traveled solo for the first time. My health had taken a backseat for years while I worked my way through school and began to develop new relationships in a completely new place from where I grew up.

Bootcamp helped change my relationship with food, gave me a community, and got me used to working out regularly. Once it ended – I didn’t want my progress to stop either and I joined Seismic CrossFit. I was nervous at first, but Heather, Adam and Ian helped me feel safe while getting used to Olympic weightlifting and scaled the workouts so I didn’t immediately die and get discouraged. Also, the Seismic CrossFit community welcomed me with open arms and encouraged me every step of the way.

Now I feel stronger than ever! I workout consistently which reduces my anxiety and stress from work, gives me more energy, and makes my clothes fit better. Honestly – on the rare occasions that I don’t make it into the gym during the week, I definitely feel it and am so much more stressed out. I’ve made it a priority because I know how much better my week is if I go workout.
I love going to the gym 3 days/week and working out alongside my fellow CrossFitters and then catching up while doing mobility (stretches) afterwards. Heather, Adam, Ian and the CrossFit family push and encourage me during every workout. I feel like I hit new PRs (personal records) every time I’m at the gym and I feel stronger than ever before. I still have a lot of room for growth (being able to do pull ups, working on pistols & snatches, and definitely food/alcohol intake on the weekends) but I know that I’ll get there with the help of the coaches, time, and consistency.

I haven’t lost much “weight” according to the scale, but by taking monthly progress pictures I can see myself thinning out and gaining muscle. Its a good reminder that the scale is only one tool for measuring progress. It means more that I can lift 20lb heavier than the month before, and that my jeans are loose, and that I’m not a crazy stressed out zombie from work and life. And I’m so grateful that I have these silly, compassionate, wonderful people who inspire me and push me and encourage me to keep coming back.

stars“I thought I was doing crossfit on my own. Then I came to Seismic Crossfit I learned I didn’t know jack. I have increased in fitness tenfold. My flexibility, strength and understanding of my potential has grown well past my expectations or anything I could have done on my own. In a few months I had my first muscle-up and am currently working on handstand push-ups. If your a veteran trainer or looking to get your first pull-up Adam and Heather will get you there through positive knowledgeable motivation. Hope to see you there soon.”

stars“I love this gym!! I’ve been to another Crossfit gym before and I’d say that this one is superb; my favorite. The coaches are caring, supportive, encouraging, and well versed and knowledgable in the movements and form. They are very accommodating to injuries/abilities and always able to scale down to your skill level. Not to mention the other members are friendly and fun to be around! I love that mobility and skill are a huge part of every class. I’m definitely getting stronger and more confident being there. Highly recommended!!”

stars“Having been with Seismic Crossfit for about 8 months my fitness and style of nutrition on improved because of the knowledgable guidance of the owners Adam and Heather! Seismic Crossfit is unique in the way of how the community is built. Everyone knows everyone and it makes it fun to cheer others on during the WOD (Workout of the Day). All the people you meet are awesome and there is never a dull moment when you’re bored because you are constantly having fun. Go try out an intro class and sign up, I was skeptical about Crossfit at first but then I fell in love with it and having Seismic Crossfit as my first gym I can say that I won’t find a gym like it!”
